MPP Gretzky: Ford hanging Windsor workers out to dry by saying ‘NO’ to anti-scab legislation

QUEEN’S PARK – NDP MPP Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West) released the following statement after Ford’s Conservatives voted down the NDP’s anti-scab legislation yet again:

“The Conservatives like to talk a big game, but when push comes to shove, they let Windsor-Essex workers down every single time. Our NDP bill is a common-sense solution to stop employers bringing in replacement workers to break strikes – the very thing workers at Highbury Canco and Windsor Salt had to fight back against this year. Ford could’ve immediately put a stop to that, but he chose not to.

Windsor will always be a proud union town – and our workers deserve a government that has our backs.”

QUICK FACTS

  • The Ontario NDP introduced the Anti-Scab Labour Act in March 2023, to restore legislation scrapped by a Conservative government that would ban employers from replacing union workers while on strike. It was the 16th time the legislation has been brought forward.
  • On November 23, several Ontario unions joined the NDP at Queen’s Park to urge Ford to pass this important legislation
